Special instructions   Meet at the logging road gate by the parking lot. We will head up the logging road, keeping left to reach Holder Knob, then will follow the trail back down along Holder Ridge. There are no services at trailhead.

Directions  Take State Route 18 to the Hobart-Issaquah exit. Head south 1/4 mile, then turn left into the Taylor Mountain parking lot.

From I-90, take exit 17 at Front Street in Issaquah. Head south on Front Street and Issaquah-Hobart Road for 8.5 miles, passing under SR 18, and continuing for 1/4 mile to the Taylor Mountain parking lot.

The Good  The trail offers expansive views of Mount Rainier.

The Bad  The trail is popular with horses and mountain bikes, so can be rutted. The trail is muddy in winter, and dusty in summer.

Where  Just south of State Route 18 at the Hobart-Issaquah exit.

Notes  Taylor Mountain offers an extensive network of gentle to moderate trails. The Holder Ridge trail traverses a clearcut area on the west end of the park, offering dramatic views of Mount Rainier. Sturdy walking shoes or hiking boots are appropriate. Brush is minimal, so short pants can be worn. The trail has ample exposure, making a sun hat and sunscreen important on clear days.
